My name is Leslie Golding Mastroianni and I am a writer. For ten years I worked as a family therapist. I’ve written a novel called Buying A Year; I had one story of mine appear in a magazine. I love the written word and that has remained unchanged since I was a toddler. I have a photo of myself at age 4, running around in my grandparents’ small orchard, book in hand.
I’ve been teaching writing workshops and writing groups for the last 11 years. I especially like leading memoir-writing groups. I’ve been privileged to be present when individuals realize that YES, THEY’VE HAD INTERESTING LIVES and YES, THEY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO WRITE DOWN THEIR OWN STORIES.
I found this quote in a writers’ magazine and I use it whenever I teach. A young man who had written a book of poems wrote:
No one should pass through time without writing their thoughts and experiences down for others to learn from. Even if only one person, a family member, reads something you wrote long after you’re gone, you live on. So writing gives you power. Writing gives you immortality.
Please join me on this lovely journey.
